The Ralph
updated: Aug 27, 2011, 10:00 AM

Dear Edda,

My life's dream is to have a sandwich named after me. I think it's so cool to go into those delis where all the sandwiches have names. I would like mine to bear my name or my nickname. I don't have a nickname, but something like, "Big Bad Boy" or "Kahuna" would be awesome.

You seem to know everything. Do you know if there's a way to have a sandwich named after me?

Signed,

Ralph

Dear Ralph,

What would be on your sandwich?

Edda

Something tells me "The Ralph" probably won't be a big hit.

You could change your name to Hoagie.

Dear Ralph,

I don’t want to ‘spew’ on your parade here, and I’d like to stay away from ‘regurgitating’ what has already been said, that said, my good friend Ulysses P. Chuck, or ‘U.P. Chuck’ for short tried for years to have a sandwich named after him… all to no avail. Best of luck to you, though, in your quest of a sandwich sporting your name.

Sincerely, I.P. Freely
Yellow River, Montana

I loved the Monterey sandwich at the old camino cielo store. Yum!

I want a sandwich named after me, too.

I was thinking about a ham sandwich with extra goat cheese, and a touch of horse radish and vinegar, served with an endive topping on a toasted everything bagel.

The GOWEST ... What do you think, South Coast Deli?

Gowest - now THAT sounds like a Ralph!

My sandwich would be tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil and olive oil on a freshly baked French roll from Our Daily Bread. It could be called the Yum.

I dunno, with horse radish and vinegar, it might better be called GOSOUTH.

I'll bet any sandwich shop or deli would be happy to name a sandwich after you....if you pay them enough. $500 might do it...

Make sure your name gets spelled correctly. I saw a sandwich at a shop in Rome called The Jonny Deep.

There used to be a sandwich shop on the mesa that kept the recipes of regulars tacked to the wall so you could ask for your own sandwich by name. Or browse other names for a tasty looking concoction.

Remember the old "Road Kill Menu" that circulated years ago. Try something like the "Ralphanator" or "Ralph-n-Rolf". Be imaginative and match it to the right kill. At least your on one menu. Good Luck.

Sushi Terry (sp?) on Bath St. has rolls named after their customers. A Ralph Roll anyone?
