Updated 1/6/2017, 1530 hours: On 1/6/2017 at approximately 1415 hours, suspect Alfredo Ortiz was taken into
custody by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department in the unincorporated area of Somis. The Oxnard Police
Department had requested the assistance from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department to re-search the
area where the suspect was last seen. During this time, a 911 call was received from an agricultural worker
who told dispatchers that a Hispanic male subject had just attempted to carjack his work vehicle. With law
enforcement already in the immediate area including the Ventura County Sheriff's Department Air Unit, a
perimeter was set up in the area. The suspect was located and apprehended by the Ventura County Sheriff's
Department and confirmed to be Alfredo Ortiz.
Ortiz will be transported to the Oxnard Police Department where he will be interviewed and subsequently
booked for the murder of Teresa Ortiz.
Details: On 1/5/2017, at approximately 10:35 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of North Juanita
reference a domestic violence incident involving a male and female. The male was seen by witnesses
dragging the female into the residence which was followed by multiple gunshots. A female and several
children were seen fleeing from the residence.
Oxnard Police officers arrived on scene and were advised by witnesses that a female victim was in the
residence with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The neighboring schools were immediately placed on
lockdown. Unknown if the suspect was still in the residence, Oxnard Police officers made exigent entry into
the residence to rescue the gunshot victim. The female victim was located inside the residence and brought
to safety outside. After live saving measures were attempted by officers and medical personnel, the victim
would succumb to her injuries.
The suspect has been identified as Alfredo Ortiz, 33 years of age of Oxnard. He is described as a Hispanic
male, 5'5, 195 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes. The suspect may have been transported from the scene
by an unwilling family member to the area of Somis in Ventura County. The suspect should be considered
armed and dangerous. Anyone with information in regards to the suspect's whereabouts should dial 911
