Fatal Collision at Rose Ave Causes Road Closures

Rose Avenue south of Cesar Chavez Drive, Oxnard

  • 27-year-old male Oxnard resident (name withheld pending notification of family) – 2001 Nissan 350Z
  • Reynaldo Lugo, 45-year-old Oxnard resident – 2008 Chevy Pickup
  • Andre Gutierrez, 21-year-old Oxnard resident-2003 Honda Civic

DETAILS:

On January 3, 2017, at 12:02 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Police Department and EMS personnel responded to a collision in the area of Rose Avenue and Cesar Chavez Drive. When officers and EMS personnel arrived, they discovered three vehicles were involved in the collision and multiple subjects had been injured.  Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver of the Nissan was traveling northbound on Rose Avenue and crossed over the center divider colliding into a Chevy Pickup which was traveling southbound in the number one lane of Rose Avenue.  The collision caused the Chevy Pickup to collide into a Honda Civic which was southbound in the number two lane of Rose Avenue.   

The driver of the Chevy Pickup truck, Reynaldo Lugo a 45-year-old Oxnard resident, and the driver of the Honda Civic, Andre Gutierrez a 21-year-old Oxnard resident, were transported to local hospitals due to moderate injuries and are listed in stable condition. EMS personnel attempted to render aid to the driver of the Nissan; however, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision.  

It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are factors involved in the collision. The collision is still under investigation.
