2016 was an eventful year. There was a flurry of celebrity deaths, one of the most controversial presidential
elections in American history, and several large political movements that surrounded it.
Every year Google publishes a list of the top searches from their web browser. Some of the top searches may
surprise you, while others seem expected. See them below.
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were the top 2 most searched people in 2016, which is not surprising.
However the 3rd highest searched person was Olympic athlete Michael Phelps, followed by Democratic
presidential candidate. Bernie Sanders.
The top "How to..." search was "How to play Pokemon Go" and was followed by "How to vote." Read more top
searches through Google's Year in Search.
I'm so glad to see that Panama Papers made the top 10. I could not care less about Pokemon, but proof that far too many politicians are as corrupt as we suspect should get more exposure.

Haha, I love that Pokémon got more hits for the "how to" category than voting. And we wonder how things went so awry...

Hopefully something can be done about the Fake News that often ends up as the result of a search.
There are now people laughing and congratulating themselves because they were able to write fake news with intent, fool people, have a major impact on America, and get paid for it.
And I also hope Americans will become more educated so they aren't so gullible. Fat chance however. They're more interested in reinforcing their own personal beliefs than getting to facts & truth.

Exactly which "fake news" are you referring to? The fake news we get from network TV & the rest of the main stream media every day of the year? Or do you mean the lies our government constantly feeds us?
Have you heard that the government wants to remove $100 bills from circulation? Or that there won't be another "bailout" the next time the "too big to fail" banks go bust , because the banks will seize all their customer's deposits and give them worthless bank shares in return?
The US government is broke, and can't borrow any more money because all the money from income tax is only enough to pay the interest - next, they plan to seize all the money held in IRAs so that the government can "manage" it for us.
And when that money's gone, we'll all be serfs.

Glad to see someone else that cares more about Pokémon and is a double negative aficionado.

Why is it always the conservatives coming up with new ideas for dirty tricks like fake news and funneling dark money via 501(c)(4) organizations?
I think it's because they figured out they can't win on a level playing field.
