Battery With Injury

Incident: Battery with Injury

Location: Kalorama St. and Front St.

Date/Time Occurred: 02/25/13 @ 1601 hrs

Officer(s) Involved: VPD Patrol

Victim(s): Gregory Sjostrom, 60 yrs, Ventura Resident

Suspect(s): Unknown Vagrant, WM, 45 yrs with a beard, wearing a blue down jacket

On the above date and time, the Ventura Police Command Center received a call of an injured subject from a battery at the corner of Kalorama St. and E. Front St. Officers, along with Ventura City Fire and AMR personnel, responded to the call and found Sjostrom suffering from moderate head and facial injuries. He was transported to VCMC for treatment of his injuries. The suspect fled prior to officers arriving on scene.

During the investigation, officers learned that Sjostrom and a friend were taking landscape photographs in area, when the suspect began yelling and challenging them both to a fight. The suspect also started throwing rocks in their direction, but did not hit them. In an attempt to avoid any further confrontation with the suspect, Sjostrom and the friend began walking away from the area, but the suspect physically attacked Sjostrom from behind and started hitting him in the head.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to call the Ventura Police Department at 339-4441
