updated: Feb 26, 2013, 9:35 AM

Source: Ventura Police Department

Incident: Recovered Stolen Vehicle and Felony Hit and Run Arrest

Location: Dunning St. and Telegraph Rd.

Date/Time Occurred: 02/25/13 @ 1314 hrs

Officer(s) Involved: VPD Patrol, VPD Traffic Unit, Ventura City Fire

Victim(s): Withheld

Suspect(s): Jordan Chavez, 18 yrs, Ventura Resident

Report #: 13-2293

Narrative:

On the above date and time, the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a call from the victim of a stolen vehicle, reporting they had information that their vehicle was seen in the parking lot of the Mission Bell Motel in the 3200 Block of Main St. Officers responded to the area and confirmed the vehicle was in fact at the location.

While officers were watching the vehicle, Chavez (driver) and a 15-year-old male juvenile were seen getting into the vehicle and driving away from the parking lot.

Chavez saw patrol units on Telegraph Rd. and attempted to flee, but lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Dunning St. and Telegraph Rd. and collided into a palm tree. After the vehicle came to a stop, Chavez fled from the vehicle on foot and was apprehended by officers a short distance away. He was taken into custody without further incident.

As the vehicle was still coming to a stop, the male juvenile attempted to flee on foot from the passenger's side of the vehicle, although the still moving vehicle pinned him between the opened door and the tree. The male juvenile's leg had to be freed by Ventura City Fire personnel. He was later transported to VCMC and treated for moderate injuries to his leg.

After being treated at VCMC for minor injuries suffered during the vehicle accident, Chavez was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, hit and run causing serious injury and vandalism. The male juvenile was not charged.

Officers were never engaged in a vehicle pursuit of Chavez. The traffic unit is investigating the accident based on the injuries to the juvenile. There were no injuries to other citizens during the incident.
