Thousand Oaks Suspects Arrested for Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of Narcotics for Sale - Press Release

Narrative: The City of Thousand Oaks has experienced a recent increase in thefts of property from vehicles and open garages. The suspects in these cases have targeted both unlocked cars with items in plain view, and open garage doors that allow easy access.

On February 1, 2013, the Thousand Oaks Police Department's Special Enforcement Unit received information from a reliable source that (S) Tommy Gonzales was in possession of numerous items that were stolen from vehicles and open garages during the past month. Information was also received that (S) Gonzales was receiving this stolen property in exchange for cash and/or drugs.

On February 2, 2013, the Special Enforcement Unit served a search warrant at (S) Gonzales' residence with the assistance of the Thousand Oaks Police Department's Investigative Bureau and Patrol Services.

Numerous items of stolen property were located at the residence and the investigation is continuing as to who the rightful owners are. It is believed the stolen property is primarily from the Newbury Park area within the City of Thousand Oaks. During the investigation (S) Gonzales and (S) Ramos admitted to receiving the stolen property from other persons.

While searching the residence detectives located evidence that indicated (S) Gonzales was in possession of marijuana for sale, and in possession of controlled substances for sale. The investigation revealed that (S) Gonzales and (S) Sevilla have two children together; a 4-year-old boy and a 6-month-old boy.

Due to the children's access to the contraband, the drugs and/or drug paraphernalia, and the exposure of the children to persons selling stolen property and/or purchasing drugs at the residence a DEC (Drug Endangered Children) investigation was initiated. Ventura County Child Protective Services Agency was requested to respond to the location. Child Protective Services conducted their own investigation and ultimately took the two children into protective custody.

(S) Gonzales was arrested for four felony counts: 273a(a) PC - Child Endangerment, 496(a) PC - Possession of stolen property, 11351 H&S - Possession for sale of a controlled substance, and 11359 H&S - Possession for sale of marijuana. He was booked at the East County Jail on $50,000.00 bail.

(S) Sevilla was arrested for one felony count: 273a(a) PC - Child Endangerment. She was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on $50,000.00 bail.

(S) Ramos was arrested for one felony count: 496(a) PC - Possession of stolen property. He was booked at the East County Jail on $10,000.00 bail.

The Thousand Oaks Police Department would not have located these suspects without this crucial tip from the public. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity, as it may lead to the piece of the puzzle that can solve a crime. Citizens are also reminded to lock their cars, avoid leaving items of value in their cars, and assure they close their garage doors.
