Carpinteria State Beach
updated: Jan 27, 2013, 1:15 PM
By Denise Dewire
Spent a few hours on Friday at Carpinteria State Beach during the low tides.
There is always so much to see at that beach, especially during low tides. I
think because more rain was forecasted there weren't many people out exploring.
Also, was surprised more birds weren't out too! Lucky for me the rain didn't
start until about 4:30!
Here are a few I "captured" that day. Seagulls, Snowy Egrets, Egret, Black-
Bellied Plover, Willet, Black Phoebe and a Dowitcher.

The two Marbled Godwit (half pink beak) photos are very nice - both the wading and the flying. Nice close-up of a Black-bellied Plover.

Love the shots where the background offers the least distraction.

Yes, 075P....thanks for the correction...opps not a Dowitcher but Marbled Godwit. I so appreciate any corrections, especially on these shorebirds. About six months ago I just called them all "sandpipers" but now trying to get their id's correct. Thanks for the comments, appreciate it a lot! We have such beauty in such a small area between Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties. Amazing how I have lived here most of my life and just finding out about some areas. Photography has really opened up my "eyes"!!

Great stuff Denise as always....I can relate...I too called everything a sandpiper! I think I learned here on Edhat that a Godwit's beak points upwards?

Beautiful photos! My favorite is the last one of the egret on the rock with the sea anemones.

This is the kind of beach scene one gets when the wetlands are healthy & undeveloped, people are thoughtful about trash, pesticides and dogs (on leash, off leash: just in the right places...). This is the kind of beach we get when the Coastal Commission is on the ball!
