Structure Fire

Ventura County firefighters responded at 2:41 a.m. today to a reported
structure fire on Santa Clara Avenue near the intersection of Central Avenue. The first-arriving
engine company discovered about one acre of wooden pallets on fire. Several power poles,
vehicles and other equipment were also threatened by the fire.
Assisted by units from the Ventura City and Oxnard fire departments, firefighters made an
aggressive attack on the fire, despite being hampered by a limited water supply. The fire was
knocked down at 4:34 a.m.
The fire was attacked by eight fire engines, one truck company, one crash truck, two
bulldozers, two water tenders and a number of other units. In all, about 50 firefighters were on
scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and firefighters were still on scene at 7:30 a.m.
extinguishing hot spots and assisting in the investigation. There were no injuries and the
amount of damage is unknown.
