William Etling's point about the "tempestuous, treacherous, fearsome" nature of
Point Conception in today's excellent article, is further demonstrated by these views of that
tortured shore from my recent flight. As you can see in the wider
shot, this craggy "head" that sticks out to the West into the full force of
the elements has been carved by the brunt of the Pacific's full force for
millennia. There are several deep sea caves like these on that side, and I wonder
if anyone has managed to explore them on the rare calm days.
