Incident: Stolen Vehicle Arrest

Location: 400 Block of Thompson Blvd. (Spirit Gas Station)

Date/Time Occurred: 01-11-13/ 1640 hours

Officer(s) Involved: Ventura Police Patrol Officers

Victim(s): Ronald Merkes (Ojai Resident)

Suspect(s): Douglas Jon Walzer 45 yrs (Ventura Resident)

Narrative:

On January 11, 2013 at about 4:40 pm Victim Ronald Merkes went to Spirit Gas station in the 400 block of Thompson Blvd. to pump fuel into his 04 Chevy work truck. Merkes was inside the gas station paying for gas when he heard his vehicle start and accelerate away. A witness to the theft immediately called 911 to report the crime.

Officers responded to the scene within moments of the crime being reported. Officer Sears was searching the vicinity of Ocean Ave. and Seaward Ave. when he saw the stolen work truck driving east at a high rate of speed through the intersection. Officer Sears conducted a high-risk stop with the assistance of other VPD Officers, the vehicle was recovered and the driver (Douglas Walzer) was taken into custody without incident.

Officers located stolen property from inside the Merkes vehicle on Walzer's person. A witness to the incident identified Walzer as the person who stole the vehicle from the gas station.

Walzer was taken into custody and booked into Ventura County Jail for 10851 VC-Stolen Vehicle.
