Incident: Attempt Robbery and Battery with Serious Bodily Injury

Narrative:
On the above date and time, the Ventura Police Command Center received a call of an
injured subject possibly from a robbery in the area of Harbor Blvd. and California St. Officers,
along with Ventura City Fire and AMR personnel, responded to the call and found Frey near
an encampment along the railroad tracks adjacent to Harbor Blvd. Frey was suffering from
serious, non-life threatening wounds to his face.
During the investigation, officers learned that Frey and a friend of his were sleeping in an
encampment, when the suspect approached their tent and started threatening he was going to
take Frey's property. The suspect began striking Frey several times in the face. Frey's friend
went to his defense, and began fighting the suspect. After breaking up the fight, Frey and his
friend fled the encampment and called 911.
Frey was transported to VCMC and admitted for treatment of his injuries. The suspect, who
has yet to be positively identified, was located by officers in the encampment. He was also
transported to VCMC and admitted for serious, non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Anyone with information related to this crime is
